FOOD FRIDAY: THE REAL FRENCH FRIES

As you all know, I love all things French from the language to the décor and the food. Last week Friday, it was French toast and this Friday, it's French fries but not the regular cut and fry the Irish potatoes as in the normal way but we are going to learn my personal French method. The thought of the recipe occurred to me after I wrote the recipe for the French toast. It goes like this, if French toast is all about dipping the sliced bread into whisked egg and frying it, why can't French fries be done in the same way? I decided to try it out. It came out delicious!!! My initial name for the recipe was "the French, French fries". My sister called it "the crunchy French fries". Finally, we settled for "the real French fries". Here is the recipe, it's really quite simple:

INGREDIENTS:
  • Irish Potatoes
  • Salt
  • Eggs
  • Spice (Pepper, Garlic, Ginger, Nutmeg or Curry)
  • Groundnut or olive oil
RECIPE:
  • Peel and wash the Irish potatoes
  • Cut them into strips, If you have the potato cutter, even better
  • Drain the water from the washed potatoes
  • Sprinkle some salt on it
  • Break and whisk the eggs in a bowl
  • Add a pinch of salt to the egg, you can add your grounded spices at this point if you care for spice.
  • Mix the potato strips with the egg, you can allow it to soak and absorb a few (5-10) minutes
  • Fry in shallow hot oil
  • Drain when it turns brown
The French fries can be eaten with the regular tomato ketchup we all know about or you can use stew sauce or scrambled eggs. Serve with cold juice.
